Maine Favorites at Boone's Fishhouse

Sunday, November 10, 2013 9:03 PM

This weekend my son and I had a hankering for a traditional Maine favorite - steamers, so we headed to Boone's Fish House and Oyster Room ~ a two-story restaurant at 86 Commercial Street on Custom House Wharf, overlooking Portland Harbor. The first floor houses Boone's Fish House and the second is the Oyster Room.

On this day we chose the casual dining atmosphere of the Fish House.  The wait staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.  We started off with Nonny’s Fish Chowder ~ a classic Maine chowder with cod, salt pork, onions and milk ~ served in hand made chowder mugs.   Delicious!   Accompanying the chowder were freshly baked biscuits and blueberry bread.  Our bucket of steamers served with broth and drawn butter were fresh and had been harvested from the shores of Casco Bay.  The venue is beautiful ~ warm colors and dim lighting.  A great experience!
