I started collecting art when I was 5 years old, however during my college years, I focused on political philosophy, Asian history and classical archaeology. It was not until I was 30 that I had my first major epiphany that I should be in the art world. With that I began a journey of self education and travel that led me to manage a series of galleries, culminating in opening my own gallery in 2007, the Cooper Jackson Gallery, in Portland, Maine.

I am very interested in signs, symbols, art history, iconography, fate and chance. My work is layered with specific images from artists I like and random images. I enjoy the process of creating relationships between different times, artists and cultures. I think my process and end product is very similar to writing haiku. They are a form of visual haiku.

This particular body of work “Return” has been a way for me to process the traveling journeys I have embarked on in both 2013 and 2014. The images are a combination of ephemera from some of those places, primarily India and Ireland. I continue to reference back to artists work or special exhibits I saw in images from those experiences. Each piece is a story of how we are all connected across time and space.

It has been a joy to watch people respond to the collages with laughter, pause and sadness. Life is all of that and more. I love hearing what stories these collages provoke in others.
