Our museum is at the threshold of an extraordinary transition. As with the construction of the Lorenzo di Medici Sweat Gallery (1911) and the Charles Shipman Payson Building (1983), the PMA enters a new phase as we reopen the restored Winslow Homer Studio (1884) and present the groundbreaking exhibition Weatherbeaten: Winslow Homer and Maine. We are becoming an advocate for cultural leadership in the life of our community and joining a greater national conversation through scholarship, exhibitions, and programs. This moment is just the beginning of the excitement as we embark on an adventure to explore the role of the museum in contemporary America.
